An update on life

Bad news often comes in three's.
Mine all came on one day. My boyfriend left me and my mum found out she had cancer.

That was pretty much the last time I blogged.

I was in a pretty bad place to start with. Skip forward three months and thanks to a number of people and someone very special, things aren't looking as bad.

My initial heartbreak soon turned into the realisation that my relationship was over many years ago. We both should have realised and moved on. but habits are hard to break. It took eight years to break this one.

Mama bear is still very ill. The cancer is advancing and the first round of chemo hasn't working. We now have to concentrate on getting her stronger so she can try a different chemo. She is a tough bird, and will fight as long as she can.

BUT, today is my birthday and I am 29 years old. In the past months I have realised that life is too short to regret what I haven't done and concentrate on the thing I want to do.

Blogging is one of them.

This is my outlet and my therapy. My little place on the internet that is all mine. I don't have to pass anything by anyone and I don't need anyone else approval. IT IS FOR ME!

I am beginning to feel more like Toni again.

Review || Bra's and Honey guest post

At Plus North I was lucky enough to meet the lovely Abi and Donna from Bras and Honey.

Bras and Honey specialise in stocking large cup lingerie (up to a KK) from brands such as Curvy Kate, Fantasie, Elomi, Freya and Panache. They also stock 48 back and from an A cup!

I love that Abi and Donna cover almost every size.

I wear a size 38HH and my sister wears a 32G/GG.

After a bit of persuasion my sister agreed to let me take some photos of her with the bra on.

After looking on the site, Becci decided to try a Fantasie bra over her beloved Curvy Kate bras and opted for the Nicola*.

The first bra Becci tried was a 32GG and was too big for her.

This one is a size smaller a 32G and fits a lot better. Its not perfect but a 32F would have been too small.

Here is what Becci had to say...

Like most women I have odd size boobs . One is a whole cup bigger the the other, so I generally find it hard to find bras that fit properly. I was very tempted to go with my tried and tested Curvy Kate bras but decided that I would like a wider choice in bras so chose to try Fantasie.

I found the Nicole bra to be quite a good fit. The band felt firm and the straps gave me good support. The general gore does sit against my chest but did twist a little by the end of the day.

There was some excess fabric on my smaller boob, but on my larger one, the cup sat flush.

Overall I am very happy with this bra. I like the shape that it gave me and I would definitely wear Fantasie again.

As you can see my sister was very happy with this bra! You should really have a look at the Bras and Honey site, especially as I have a 15% discount on full priced items.

OOTD || Classic or Contemporary

Over the last few years I have noticed more and more past trends seem to be sliding back in to mainstream fashion. Grunge style checked shirts and ripped jeans are a firm favourite of mine.

However I am a sucker for a pretty dress and have noticed that there is an abundance of 20ies style tea dresses and 60ies a-line dresses, which I LOVE.

When JD Williams contacted me and asked if I would be interested in picking an outfit that could be styled as classic or contemporary, I thought it would be ideal to release my inner 60ies fashion diva.

When I think of the 60ies,  I think of Twiggy. She was, and still is, an awesome fashionista, and there is a whole load of photos of her in a-line mini dresses.

In my head I was going to try and recreate the Twiggy post, but I looked, how shall I put it,  a little bit stupid. I had my legs out and everything!

So to plan two. A contemporary look. Created by simply adding leggings and in the later photos, a denim jacket and loafer style shoes.

The dress I have on is a UK size 20 and although it fits, I could have worn an 18 for a more fitted look.

As with the a-line dresses of original, this dress has elbow length sleeves but is a tad longer and sits exactly on the top of my knee. The dress is made from cotton as is light enough to wear during the summer. Add a pair of biker boots and a big oversized cardigan for the winter and you've got a winner.

Yes, the sun was in my eye!
Would have you worn it a lá the 60ies? or are you a more contemporary fashion follower?

OOTD || Check Mate

A few Saturday ago I popped myself on the train to go to lovely Leah's first Style XL event in Leicester.

I had been looking for something to wear over the last few weeks and when I was buying some sale shoes from New Look, I noticed this Black Check Print Tunic.

New Look Inspire Black Check Tunic Dress

Although it's quite dark for this lovely weather that we have been having, I thought it would be perfect for Style XL and going forward for AW. I did size up to a size 22, a size bigger than normal, as I have found the last few inspire bits to be a bit odd size wise.

I actually felt really 'on trend' wearing this outfit. Especially with my new favourite Primark dolly shoes. They were a mere £10 and a size 5 from the standard fit section. They are a very generous fit and I will be buying multiple pairs come pay day.

OOTD || Blog Sales

I love a blog sale. I love a MrsBeBe blog sale.

You see, she has a wardrobe to die for. When the first Clement Ribeiro collection came out for
 Evans, I really wanted one of the tops, but me being me, missed the boat and when I got around to buying it, it had sold out.

So when Becky tweeted me asking if I want to buy it from her blog sale, I obviously said yes!

I even decided to have a casual day at work, so I could wear it the very next day.

Brand Spotlight || Topsy Curvy

Last year Topsy Curvy attended their first Plus North and its a bit of an understatement to say they were very popular.

This year Topsy Curvy will be showcasing their wears on our catwalk and to celebrate they sent Team Plus North the Crazy Love Skater dress to celebrate!

Made from a thick heavy polyester, this dress falls really nicely, even on my oddly shaped body. The only negative is that its short. Very Short.

We still have a few plus north tickets left. Make sure you get yours before it's too late. Visit www.plusnorth.com for more details.

Don't forget to check out the rest of Team Plus North.

Review || Alice and You for Simply Be

If you saw my post a few weeks ago about visiting my local Simply Be store, I asked you which two items you thought I added to my ever overflowing wardrobe.

Well, the first one was the Alice and You High Low Floral tunic.

I love prints and this one is no exception. Its a lovely length if you like your bum covered.

Although this tunic is made from polyester, I wore it on a hot, sticky day and it wasn't too clingy or sweaty.

Review || Camden Town Fashion

Sometimes you see a dress that is so you it should just have your name on it.

For me, this is a dress that is pulled or fitted under the bust and them is a bit fit and flare.

When I first discovered  the Camden Town Shop, I was a bit sceptical that any of their clothing range would fit me. All their models are very petite and the first few items I looked at only when to a size M.

Then I found this dress*

Its made from 100% linen and at £35 is a complete steal. It also has some beautiful hand stitching on around the neckline and on the sleeves and it also has POCKETS!!!!

Obviously I opted for black, but it is available in a staggering 14 different colours. I ordered the largest size that they have, an XL, and it fit well although I would have got away with a large.

Camden Town Fashion

For the purpose of my photos, I wore black flats and tights. If I was where this on a day to day basic, I would definitely need to wear it with jeggings. I am not the tallest person in the world, about 5'3 and it was far to short at the back. even to wear with leggings.

Camden town also stock an amazing range of jewellery, menswear and homewear.

Review || Jersey Maxi Dress

Maxi dresses have definitely been a staple wardrobe item again this year. My wardrobe is a little lacking in the maxi dress area, but I am working on it.

I love jersey maxi dresses but I don't like VBO so generally avoid them, so when Bonprix asked me if I would like to review an item from their summer range, I thought I would step out of my comfort range and try a jersey maxi but size to a 22/24 for a bit of extra room, and ordered a striped jersey maxi dress. I was torn between black and white and purple and black. When I received the dress I was glad I opted for the latter.

Bonprix stripy maxi dress

This dress is so easy to style. On this occasion I wore it with cons and my denim jacket. I did have a bit of vbo, but it wasn't too bad. If I had some of the high waisted shapewear pants, I don't think the VBO would have bothered me at all.

Bonprix have got some lovely items on line at the moment and a lot of their plus size range goes up to a size 32. They will also be at Plus North again this year. Their space is always extremely popular and they have an amazing team working for them.

Will you be visiting Bonprix at Plus North?

Rub your thighs!

OK, so the title might be a tad over the top. But it's not off topic.

For years I avoided going bare legs due to the dreaded chub rub, but since blogging I have learnt some useful tricks and found some wonderful products.

For a while I have been using the anti chafe pants from The Big Bloomers company. But with the amazing hot weather we have had of late, they were just far too warm to wear.

When Vevina contacted me me to see if I would be interested in trying their anti chafe cream. I have tried loads of creams and had a mixed experience with them.

Vevina is a white cream which absorbs clear when you rub it on your thighs (or area that chafes) and is odourless, which is always a bonus.

I used this on a day when I was off work and it was absolutely red hot. I decide to swear a sundress and didn't want to wear my shorts underneath. I applied the cream to the full length of my thighs to ensure maximum coverage and got to work cleaning, making a trip to the shop and general every day stuff! I was also running around after a three years old for an hour, and had NO CHAFING!

In total honesty, it doesn't often get as warm in this country as it has been of late so probably wouldn't use this much in the UK, but this would be a definite winner on holidays abroad when you don't want to wear modesty shorts when going out during the day or leggings when going out on a night.

Vevina comes in a small red tube that wouldn't look out of place in your makeup bag or hand bag.

How do you avoid chub rub?

Would you like a tube of Vavina? I'll send the first eight people to comment a FREE tube to try for themselves!

Review || ELVi

When a parcel arrival in such a pretty box it's tempting to not open it.

I was torn between wanted to look at this beautiful dress and wanted to stare at the box a bit more! It made me feel really special, a bit sadly really!

What was inside the box? Let me show you.

This beautiful dress from ELVi*

 Made from a lovely heavy jersey, I was instantly drawn to it. The love prints!

I ordered a size 22 (I am normally a size 20) and although it is true to size, I think I should have gone for a size 24. I am not really a fan of body con, so sizing up would give me a shift dress style.

Its really easy to wear. Perfect for work or a shopping trip. But sadly, as much as I love it, sadly it doesn't suit me. And it made me really sad.

ELVi will be at Plus North this year so if they are a new brand to you, you will be able to check them out at the event. In the mean time, I urge you to visit their website.

These items are definitely going on my wish list.

Brand Spotlight || Simply be

35 days people!! THIRTY. FIVE. DAYS!

Its probably an understatement to say that I am becoming a bit nervous. I am starting to imaging that everything that can go wrong will go wrong. I have an awesome team working with me, they are helping to keep me sane and talking sense in to me when I need it!

As most of you know, Simply Be are one of our premier sponsors, and have been since the first Plus North. Their range of clothing and their concessions are best bar none and, in all honesty, their on going support of Plus North is one of the reasons that I continued with Plus North this year.

Anyway, Simply Be very kindly sent Emma, Kim, Gemma and myself the same item to review and get you excite for what they will be showcasing at Plus North.

The item in question? This lovely Tux jacket with PU trim

Before I received it, I already knew what I wanted to wear with. For me, this is the perfect addition to my love of black. Black skinny jeans, black vest and black jacket.

Simply Be Tux jacket with PU trim

This is my serious face!!!
I ordered the jacket in a size 22, but really didn't need to. I had plenty of boob room and the arms were slightly too long. But I don't think It looks over big.

Don't forget that you can still but Plus North tickets at www.plusnorth.com

And remember to check out Emma, Kim and Gemma's blog to see how they have worn their jacket.

Review || Oriflame Everyday Makeup

A few month back, you might remember that I attended the launch of Oriflame's The One range.

Following on from that I was send The One Illuskin Blush and the Colour Match eye shadow duo. Both products are from The Ones Everyday range. priding itself on efficient all in one solutions taking makeup routine from high maintenance to effortless. Created to look flawless and low maintenance, but usable for your everyday face or makeup on the go.

Illuskin Blush

Available in three shades, this is Pink Glow, Illuskin allows you to sculpt and define your face whilst leaving a healthy glow effect. When I received this I was a little sceptical about the pink of the blush. It reminds me of when little girls play with makeup. When I swatched it, it didn't really make me feel much better. But when mixed with the light shades it really does give a real nice effect. As it gives a healthy glow, its really subtle and is barely there. The lighter shade has a slight shimmer in it and looks really nice when the light catches it.

The Illuskin is out now and is currently £6.95

Colour Match Eye Shadow Duo

MY. PERFECT. EYESHADOW COLOURS!

Highly pigmented and silky soft. This duo allows you to create a daytime smokey eye effect without been over the top and 'going out' nights. At the Blog Yorkshire event Georgina used wet eye shadow to create a smudge effect. I tried it with this duo and it gives an awesome dramatic effect. What I like most about this duo is the fact that although it is highly pigmented, its not too dark. I often find duo's of a similar colour are too dark for a day time look. And they both look equally as nice with other shadows, or in the case of the lighter colour, on its own.

The eyeshadow duo's will be available in five shades and launch on the 15th August and will be at an introductory price of £7.95.

OOTD || Primark Daisy Dress

It's not often I buy clothes from Primark. In fact that's a lie. I spend loads of money in Primark. But its mainly on shoes and leggings. Most of the clothes I buy end up going back (I am rubbish on trying on).

For some reason I ended up keeping this dress.

It's a really thin material, so perfect for these really muggy days that we have been having of late.

This dress is a size 20 and is very true to size. You can't really tell on these photos but it was uber uber tight around my boobs. It's also really short too. Thank goodness for leggings.

I must try more things from Primark. Their sizing is so urgh though. Must try hard Primark! Or better still, extend your size range!

Blog Yorkshire - July

One of the perks of blogging is that I get to go to awesome events. Last Saturday was one of these awesome events. Organised by Carrianne and Faith, they are now known as Blog Yorkshire.

I always love meeting up with bloggers that are local to me, and the Yorkshire lot are great group to spend time with.

Blog Yorkshire was held at the very trendy Revolution on The Calls in Leeds. The space allocated was quite small and the rest of the bar was open, mainly to a groups of hen parties, but it was still a great atmosphere and a great day.

Carrianne and Faith managed to secure some amazing brands to attend they included Espa, Pastille Nail Bar, Allertons Hairdressers, RockPamperScissors, Country Attire, Quiz Clothing and the beautiful Georgina doing make overs. As well as contributions from Wynsors and House of Fraser.

After a quick introduction we were left to mingle and chat to the brands. Having meet the Espa girls before at Hayley's event I was eager to speak to them again for some more reassuring advice regarding my skin care. I am really really cautious of what I put on my skin. But the girls recommended that I try one of their kits for dehydrated skin. I will test and let you know!

Sadly I missed out on getting my nails done, or winning anything from the raffle, but I walked away with an awesome goody bag, and further affirmation that I love attending event that I am not organising!

Now the photos!

Photo courtesy of Lucy

The theme was 'Festivals'. The one and only festival I have been to was a very wet Glasto 7 years ago. SO I just went with something weather appropriate and add my fabulous crown!

A massive thanks to Carrianne and Faith for organising Blog Yorkshire. Now when is the next one?

Simply Be Store Review

Last week I was contacted by the lovely Carey at Label PR to see if I would be interested in visiting the Leeds branch of Simply Be for a style consultation.

I have visited the Leeds store a number of times but never had a style consultation with Simply Be. I am pretty easy when it comes to styling. The only thing I won't wear are jumpsuits. I just can't get my head around them. Plus I look absolutely hideous in them.

It's actually been awhile since I last visited the store. I was excited to see the new items that has just dropped in store as well as checking out the sale. I really wanted to see if they had the animal print duster jacket in store.

The lovely store manager Kirsty met me on arrival and asked mes at few questions about what I liked and didn't like and showed me some of the top selling items.

I was quite surprised to learn that the store don't selected what items they stock. They can request items that they want or items that customer are asking for, and if available they occasionally get them.

What I really like about Simply Be stores are the fact they stock a bit of everything. They have their own brand as well as a good mix of other brands. The Alice and You range seemed very popular in store.

Now the pics. I had to take some with my phone as the store was extremely busy and poor Kirsty was running backwards and forwards to see if I was OK whilst dealing with customers.

 I loved how this sat on my boobs. To get a fit I was happy with thought, I had to size up to a 24. TWO sizes bigger than normal!

Very very short! Even with leggings it was more like a tunic. This is a 20 and it's a bit big around the boob area. However, it has pockets and that's makes it a winner in my eyes. This is definitely one that is going on my wish list!

Palazzo Print Pants - Different Print and Crochet sleeve top

This is one of those sizing goes of the window. I don't know if it's because the bottoms are made of cheesecloth, but these are a size 16. And I love them. They come in  few different prints too. And the top is just adorable!

Alice and You denim dress and kimono

I had to size up to a 24 again in this. And again it was pretty short. I don't love or hate the kimono. I think it looks good with the dress though.

Favourite dress of the day. It's just so bloody cute! I love the shape, the print and the colours. This might be my Plus North Dress!

Ok, what do you notice about these two photos? Answer. The one on the left is a size 16-18 and the one on the right is a 12-14. Yes, you read that right. A size 12-14. I know it's supposed to be over sized, but this is crazy. After trying on both dresses a number of times, I decided I liked the fit of the 16-18 better than the 12-14. Although it did give a better shape, I preferred how the bigger size fell. Especially when I walked.

Another item that I needed to size up in. Is it just me that Alice and You seems to be a really small fit on? Apart from swing dresses I seem to need at least 2 sizes bigger that what I normally wear. This is casual perfection for me. Would look great with skinny jeans and leggings, covers my bum and sits low enough at the front. And the print is marvellous.

I want this for my Christmas dress. It felt amazing on and very luxurious. The slip under the sheer skirt is quite short so I would probably wear this dress with some tights. This photo was also took using the Magic Mirror in the changing rooms. If you haven't used the this before, it take four photos and then gives you the option to either print or email the photos.

As you can see, the Leeds store is quite spacious. Even with the sale rails out, there was lots of space even when the store as busy.

Simply Be stores also stock a great range of lingerie and footwear. And as with most Simply Be stores, there is a Jacamo upstairs.

Can you guess which two items I added to my wardrobe?
