30 Days, 30 Dress - Day One

I am one of those people who have a wardrobe full of those, a lot with tags still on, but never nothing to wear.

This month I am going to *try* and start saving a bit of money to go towards my college kit and exam fee's.

After counting up all my beautiful dresses I realised I had nearly enough to wear a different one every day for two months!!! To be exact I have 51 dresses!!

So 30 Days, 30 Dress was born.

The first dress I decided to wear was an Alice and You one from ASOS Curve that I bought from Becky in her recent blog sale.

I got loads of compliments on the dress and felt like a girlie girl wearing it!

What been a fat women is really like...

As you may have seen,  Cosmo recently published an article called 'What been a fat women is really like' where two unnamed fat women answered a number of questions. The lovely Claire from A Monkey Fashionista came up with the idea that the #psbloggers should answer the questions and post with the hash tag #cosmoQs

So, here goes!

How do you feel when other women around you complain about feeling/being fat?

The majority of women who I hear say this are a lot smaller than I am.  I understand that everyone feels different in their bodies, but I often feel that saying things like 'oh I am so fat' when your quite obviously not, makes me think that a lot of the time they are just fishing for compliments.

If they are fat, I actually feel sorry for them. I accept and try to embrace it. I am not defined by my fat and I try and install a sense of self confidence in them.

How has your body image changed since high school? College?

I am much more confident now. I have always been confident and out going, but when I was younger, I think It was a false confidence.  I pretended that nothing bothered me.

Have you tried dieting? What happened?

I think all fat women have dieted at some point.  I definitely have. I have done most diets available.  I have actually recently lost about 2 stone.  This isn't down to dieting. Its down to eating healthier.  For me there is a massive difference between been on a diet and eating healthily.  I eat a balanced diet and most importantly to me is that I know what I am eating.  95% of what I eat is cooked from scratch. I don't deprive myself of anything.  If I want it, I eat it!

Do you think in your case your weight is partly or entirely genetic?

I suppose there is a case to say yes and no.My Nana was very overweight before she past away. My mum was a size 18/20 until her mid 30s. My brother and sister where both overweight as children.  But my auntie, my mums sister, is a size 4. My uncle, also on my mums size, is over 6ft and very slim. I guess its impossible to say.

Do you consider yourself healthy? Have there been instances where people assumed you were unhealthy?

I not unhealthy but I admit I am unfit. As I said previously,  I eat a healthy diet and don't have any weight related health problems so to speak.

I think its just a general presumption that all fat people are unhealthy... its all the media's fault!

Are your parents both supportive of you at the weight you're at? Have they always been?

This Is a funny one for me. My family have never said I needed to loose weight,  but when I have been on a diet in the past, I get the general comments like 'you look so much better with a bit of weight off'.

How do you think retailers can improve clothes for plus-size people?

The UK plus size market is beyond poor. Thankfully we have a few places that are amazing, and there seems to new a new plus size brand every week. What earks me is the fact that the most are ridiculous priced! I want the same choice as an average size women and at the same price!!

Do you think plus-size women are judged differently than plus-sized men are? How?

I am not a plus size man, so cant really answer this question. I do feel that plus size men are generally more accepted though.

Do you think there’s an assumption made/stereotype that exists about plus-size people? How would you respond to it?

YES!! They majority of people think that fat people are lazy, greedy, unhealthy, sad, depressed, lonely, easy etc etc… If people are stupid enough to judge a person before they know them, more fool them.

Do you think there’s ever a right way or time to express concern about someone’s weight?

Yes and no. I think if a person is actually ill from weight then I can understand concern from friends of family member. From a stranger. No. Never.

What are the worst things people have said to you about your body?

I guess I am quite lucky in the fact that I can't really remember a time that I have actually been abused  or taunted for my weight. Partly because the only time I some one did, I broke his nose and partly because I try and avoid putting myself in the situation where I could be taunted. Obviously, I occasional get the odd name calling in the street and when I am out etc etc.

What have people said (or do you wish they’d say) that would compliment your body or appearance?

I don't take compliments well due to years of self loathing. If I get compliments I smile politely, say thank you and go bright red! I think secretly every girl wants to be called beautiful occasionally.

Do you find yourself hanging out with women who are closer to your size?

My friends vary from a size 6 to a size 30. I guess I have more plus size friends now, but I don't intentional go out looking for fat people to make friends with!

How has your weight affected your sex life, if at all?

I don't think it has. I had regular sex with different men from the age of 16 to 21 when I met my boyfriend. My sex life now is just a regular and better than ever!

When you've been single, has your weight affected your dating life?

Nope. I had my heart broke when I was 16 and never meet anyone I wanted to be in a relationship with until I met my boyfriend.

Do you feel weird if the guy you’re with only dates larger women

Nope, I don't think so. I know I am the largest women my boyfriend has been with and him the same of me.

Do you feel weird if he's only dated slimmer women before you?

Again, Nope.

Ooooh, Check you!!

I have been looking for a check shirt for awhile, and on my last trip to Asda I wasn't disappointed!

I bagged myself a lovely red check shirt for just £14. Now, its by no means perfect. Ideally, I would want it a bit longer and a bit more fitted but it did the job! I also had to size up to a size 24 as a 20 didn't fit across my boobs and was ridiculously short!

For a change I wore it with my wonderful black skinny jeans from Simply Be (I have 3 pairs, all in black!). I also had massive hair all day Friday so some unknown reason!

I love the Country look that seems to be doing the rounds at the moment. I am a massive fan of country music and the whole Nashville wonderment that goes with it.  Although my bloke did ask me how many trees I had cut down!!

Have you seen a better check shirt?

Taking Shape Review

Before I start this review I have two apologies to make.

Firstly for my shocking picture quality. My house has the worst light and its too dark after I get home from work.

And secondly, the time its taken me to get this review up. Partly due to having to swap these trouser for a smaller size, having to arrange a suitable redelivery date and been consumed with Plus North!

Anyway, when Taking Shape contacted me to see if I would be interested in reviewing a few items from their range I was instantly drawn to the Society Jeans. I think it was the unusual print that caught my eye!

The jeans retail at £50 but are currently on sale for £25, which is a complete bargain is my eye!

Taking Shape Society Jeans

As you can see I wore the society jeans with a plain black shirt and black heels.

As with most jeans I wear I decided to wear them at ankle length (I love ankle grazers!), as worn normally they are a tad too long for me.

What do you think? How would you wear these Jeans?

I Feel Good #4

You know sometimes when you spend ages getting ready for a night out, an event, or event just a blog post, and you the reflections in the mirror isn't what you hoped? This challenge is for those times when you look in the mirror, no pre planning involved and think "i look good today".

We all have out good days and our bad, but this challenge is to record those good days and to remember that confidence, at any size, is beautiful!!!

This is me a the amazing Caroline from CurvyWordy when we visited Simply Be in Leeds recently. We both picked this dress to try on. Normally I wouldn't give a dress like this a second look, but I actually felt pretty good in it. I didn't buy it as it would just be another dress in my wardrobe that I haven't worn but I would definitely consider a dress like this for a special occasion.

Claire Richards SS14 Dress review

When the recent Claire Richards SS14 range was launched I got very excited when the lovely people from Fashion World offered to send me an item to review.

I was torn between two items. Black trousers or a variation on the LBD.

As much as I struggle with black trousers I didn't own a LBD. So took the plunge to picked this stunning embroidered dress.

Claire Richards SS14 Floral Embroidered Dress

I love the heaviness of this dress, the fact that it has sleeves AND that it has POCKETS! Anything with pockets is generally a winner with me.

I ordered a size 20 and it was very true to size. I wore with black heels and bare legs but it would work equally well with tights.

I will definitely be adding more of the Claire Richards Collection to my wardrobe! Check out the rest of the range here.

Love is in the air..

I was recently contacted by Yours Clothing to see if I would like to pick something to wear based around an outfit for Valentines Day, and whilst a lot of other bloggers chose underwear and looked fab, I'm not quite brave enough to bare all!

Instead I decided to style an outfit for a romantic night out. I picked this amazing boucle waterfall jacket. Its one of those items that I would look at and admire, but never buy for myself, So I thought why not?

Charcoal Boucle Waterfall Coat
I knew what I was going to wear it before I had even received it.

I love black, I always have done, and I love going out in it. You can't beat a pair of black skin tight skinny jeans, a black swing vest and statement shoes.

I think the silver heels really bring out the grey of the jacket.

I also love that this jacket has pockets! I adore anything with pockets it (its the ex-smoker in me!)

The only thing missing? a statement necklace… I promise jewellery will be my next investment!

This jacket is also now reduced to £45 and is available here. I am wearing a my normal size 20 and could have easily worn a size 18.

• this item was gives by Yours Clothing. All words are my own.

OOTD - Simply Be Leopard Print Dress

I confess I have this dress awhile and I have worn it on more than one occasion, but after 6 months of living in my new house I have finally found somewhere to take decent pictures with decent lighting!!

More recently I have become a fan of skater dresses, I don't know why because I used to hate them!

This lovely dress is the Animal print Jacquard dress from Simply Be and is currently in the sale for £25. You can find it here. it is also available in grey and black, but one is still full price!

Simply Be Animal Print Jacquard Dress
I found the sizing on this dress to be really generous and sized down to an 18. For me this is one of those dresses that I go to when I can't find anything else to wear as it really versatile.

What I wore

Dress - Simply Be
Cardigan - Gap
Leggings - Simply Be
